Chapter Eleven
Bax placed fat purple grapes into a bowl and frowned. âShould we offer her something to eat?â
âI thought we were,â Gideon said and snagged a grape.
Bax shook his head. âI mean something more substantial, like a meal.â
Gideon shook his head. âThe grapes are good, and youâve got that little tray of cheese and crackers already in there. Itâs too early for dinner, anyway.â
âI guess.â Bax handed him the bowl and followed him out of the kitchen. âYouâve got the wine?â
âItâs chilling in the mini-fridge,â Gideon replied. He started down the stairs to the finished basement. âI told you that already.â
âRight.â Bax grimaced. âSorry. I guess Iâm just nervous.â
âDude. Chill. Itâs going to be fine.â
âEver the optimist,â Bax drawled, but he grinned. âDonât tell me youâre not nervous.â
âSure, I am,â Gideon said as they strolled into what they referred to as the media room, named so for the giant screen TV mounted on the wall. He set the bowl of grapes down next to the pretty tray of cheese and crackers already on the wide leather ottoman. âI just handle these things better than you.â
âRight.â Bax resisted the urge to check his phone again. âYouâre just more relaxed because youâve already seen her naked.â
Gideon grinned. âAnd a very pleasing sight it is, too,â he said, waggling his eyebrows.
Bax snorted. âRub it in.â
âRelax, man.â Gideon clapped him on the back. âYour turn will come.â
âThatâs far from certain,â Bax told him. âAnd even if youâre right, I really doubt itâll be tonight.â
âLetâs just see how it goes, okay?â Gideon perched on the end of the couch. âWe promised her a âno pressureâ evening, and thatâs what weâll give her. We make it clear that sheâs in charge.â
âAgreed,â Bax said. He walked over to the small wet bar to pull the wine out of the fridge and dig out a corkscrew. âNo matter what.â
He poured the golden liquid into two glasses, and handed one to his best friend, and lifted his own. âTo a very frustrating evening.â
Gideonâs laugh almost drowned out the chime of the front doorbell.
